AI tools and agents: what each one is actually for
Reviews and the pricing that decides. Each tool or agent is judged on the job it does, not on the demo: what it costs at real volume, where it stops, and what you would actually use it for.

Canva AI Headshot Generator: What It Produces, and When It Is Not Enough
Canva's headshot page fixes the light and the background on a photo you already have, and stops there. So which of its five image surfaces answers the word headshot, and what does it leave for you to change by hand?
Martin J.AI tools & agentsOct 16, 2026Marketing Automation ROI: How to Measure It Without the Vendor's Number
Every page ranking for this query prints the same return figure, and the pages printing it are citing each other rather than a source. The note behind that number was written in 2021 from sixteen deployments that closed before 2020, so it describes those projects well and forecasts yours badly. Where does your number actually live? Not on that page, and not on the platform's own ROI panel, which can only count what runs inside it. Your own figure comes from workflows you can count, invoices you already have and an attribution rule you have to state yourself, which is why it will be smaller than the borrowed one. Smaller is not the failure here. It is the first version of this figure you can defend when your finance lead asks what moved underneath it.

Two companies buy the same platform this year, on the same plan name, and pay a monthly difference of roughly ten times. The second is not doing anything more sophisticated. It just has slightly more contacts, a couple more logins and a few AI features switched on. The instinct is to blame your own growth for that gap, and the gap was never about growth. It is about a meter nobody on the team tracks until the renewal arrives. So which of the four moved on your account last quarter? The awkward part is that three of them were never a decision you made.

Somewhere in your finance review there is a line called design tools, and the number on it has quietly moved twice since you last read it. The first move arrived with a renewal, not with an announcement addressed to you. The second one does not touch the seat price at all, which is exactly why nobody flagged it. If you sign off on software spend, you have already been asked why it went up. So which of those two increases are you actually paying for? The answer is on the vendor's own pricing page, and that page is not the one your team finds first.

CapCut Pricing in 2026: Which Plan You Need and Why Every Source Disagrees
CapCut's price is printed in more places than almost any other app you pay for, and the sources cannot agree with each other. Four different numbers for the same Pro plan are reachable from one page of search results, and each one reads as completely confident. One of them was correct a year ago, one is correct now, one belongs to a completely different tier, and one was never CapCut's price at all. So which figure will your own checkout actually produce? The answer sits in a vendor restructure that most pages ranking above this one never mention, and it accounts for every conflicting number you have seen. What it does not explain is the trap sitting inside the free tier, and that trap is what decides your bill this week.
Martin J.AI tools & agentsOct 8, 2026Claude Chat vs Cowork: How to Stop Repeating the Same Work Every Week
It is Sunday evening and you are writing the same prompt you wrote last Sunday. Same rank pull, same three accounts, same formatting instructions, and it will take forty minutes because the first attempt always gets the column order wrong. You have a history full of these one-off sessions, and not one of them was built to run a second time. That is the uncomfortable part about how a lot of teams use Claude: the work repeats, and the tool gets used as though every task were new. Meanwhile Anthropic merged Chat and Cowork into a single product on September 16, 2026, so the old "Claude Cowork vs chat" framing you keep meeting in third-party guides is not even the right question anymore. The right question is what part of your week does the same thing twice. Can you name it right now? And the answer moved again on October 6, 2026, in a way that quietly retires the limitation almost every guide on the internet still quotes.
Martin J.AI tools & agentsOct 6, 2026Synthesia Pricing in 2026: What a Marketing Team Actually Pays
Synthesia's own pricing page quotes two different annual prices for its own entry plan, one scroll apart, and both are live right now. The banner at the top says plans start from $18 a month and you save 38%. The plan card under it says $18/mo, billed yearly. Then the FAQ further down the same page states that Synthesia costs "$29 per month or $264 if you go with an annual plan." One of those is wrong, and it is the one written as the answer. Your team's budget line inherited whichever number you happened to read first.
Martin J.AI tools & agentsOct 5, 2026Perplexity AI Pricing in 2026: Which of the Six Tiers You Actually Need
Perplexity publishes six prices and explains none of them. The pricing page tells you what each tier costs, the help centre tells you what each tier contains, and neither tells you which one your usage actually lands in. For individual plans the vendor's own comparison table does not publish a usable number for the ceiling at all, which is why the same question keeps resurfacing in its subreddit. Meanwhile two of the explainers ranking above this page are still quoting an API price list Perplexity retired on 27 September. I read the vendor's pages instead of the summaries, and the ladder is not what the top results describe. Here is the one that is current, including two tiers most breakdowns leave out entirely. So which limit did you hit last month, and did you ever find out what it was?
